JDLR. Just doesn’t look right. As a training officer for rookie cops earlier in my career, I passed this concept along to all the new guys. As a Special Operations soldier in Vietnam and Central America, I literally lived by this maxim.
It is that feeling that rises like a mist from the most visceral depths of our reptilian psyche. Often it cannot be articulated or identified other than the intuitive sense that something is not right and danger threatens.
The identifying acronym is only half of the maxim however. It is useless unless acted upon. So when the hair on the nape of your neck tells you JDLR: Act. You have everything to lose.
The Now Drill is a trigger control exercise. This is a great drill to do with an instructor pacing you or to do on your own.
