In recent months, we’ve seen far too many news stories about innocent people being kidnapped and murdered because they weren’t aware of their surroundings. Their headphones cut them off from the outside world and distracted them from potentially dangerous situations. As Grant Stinchfield says, “Headphones can take away some of your senses; you need all of your senses to be fully aware of your surroundings.”
Lead Instructor Jeff Houston also suggests arming yourself with non-lethal weaponry such as pepper spray. It’s light, it’s potent, and it can be easily carried with you while you’re out on your jog.
